Dates and Times

All 12U, 13U and 14U candidates will participate in 2 separate tryouts.

1st Tryout - Saturday, September 14th

  • 12U candidates - 9AM - 10:30AM
  • 13U candidates - 10:45AM - 12:15PM
  • 14U candidates - 12:30PM - 2PM

2nd Tryout - Saturday, September 21st

Each player will receive an email from the MYBA Registrar the week of September 16th with the time of their 2nd Tryout group.   Note: Players who try out earlier on the 21st may also be asked to return later in the day to try out again (this is a good thing).  If your player is asked to stay we will contact you via phone/text with the number you provide on the registration form.  


1st Tryout Format

All 12U, 13U and 14U candidates will participate in the following evaluations:

  • Hitting - batting cage hitting
  • Pitching - players will throw several pitches and be measured on speed (by radar gun) and accuracy
  • Fielding Grounders - each player will field multiple ground balls
  • Fielding Fly Balls - each player will field multiple fly balls
  • Running - players will be timed in the 50 yard dash

Note that tryout scores are based on mechanics and fundamentals more than pure results. For example, a player who tracks a fly ball perfectly and then drops it will likely receive a better score than a player who struggles to track the ball, and then makes a lucky diving grab.

2nd Tryout Format

The 2nd tryout will again include hitting, and fielding evaluations, as well as a simulated game format. Every player will have the opportunity to hit, base-run, and to play multiple positions in the field during the scrimmage.

Additional Key Tryout Information

Attire - players should wear baseball appropriate clothing, including full length pants (no shorts).   Tryouts are the few days each year we ask players to not wear Millers gear.  We ask that returning players not wear attire that has a MYBA logo on it, including baseball caps, jersey, etc... To minimize bias, your child will not be permitted to wear any piece of their Millers uniform, or a shirt with their name on it.

Equipment - baseball glove and protective cup are required. Bats and helmets are available for use, but we recommend bringing your own.

Warm-ups - Allow your player some time to warm up before tryouts. The tryout facility has ample room for kids to play catch and get loose.  Bring a glove to help your player warm up, or arrange a warm-up 'buddy' beforehand.

When you register for tryouts, we will collect $250 - a non-refundable $50 Tryout Fee, and a $200 Commitment Fee. The Commitment Fee is refundable if you are not offered a roster spot, or if you withdraw by 9/26, before teams are formed. If you are offered a roster spot and decline it or withdraw over the winter, your Commitment Fee is forfeited.

If you are applying for Financial Aid, indicate that you are doing so during registration, and you will not need to pay the Commitment Fee at that time. 

The $200 Commitment Fee also acts as a down payment towards your Participation Fees, which cover the entire 2020 season. The balance of Participation Fees are due in early March. Participation Fees for the upcoming year have not been set yet, but 2019 fees may be viewed at
